Sentrient’s HR software for retail businesses is an all-in-one HR and compliance system for Australian retailers. It onboards casual, junior and permanent staff, tracks certifications and training, captures policy sign-off and keeps workforce records in one place, across one store or many, without needing a large HR team.
HR Software For Retail Businesses
A simple-to-implement, easy-to-use, and reliable HR system for retail businesses across Australia. Onboard casual, junior and permanent staff fast, keep General Retail Industry Award classifications and certifications on record, deliver compliance training across every store, and manage performance and turnover from one place, whether you run one shop or a multi-store network.
Retail HR Software Built For Australian Stores
Retail runs on casual and part-time staff, seasonal hiring spikes and constant customer contact, and staff turnover in the sector sits well above the national average. Most retail employees and stores fall under the General Retail Industry Award 2020, and eligible casuals now have an employee choice pathway to request permanent employment under the National Employment Standards. Retail work also brings a higher exposure to customer aggression and violence, which Work Health and Safety duties require employers to manage like any other hazard. Sentrient’s HR software for retail businesses gives you one place to onboard staff across stores, track certifications and training, capture policy sign-off, log incidents and keep records audit-ready. It supports the work of staying compliant. Your business remains responsible for meeting its obligations.

FAQs About Our HR Software for Retail Businesses
Answers to the questions store owners, area managers and retail HR teams ask us most about running HR and compliance across their stores.
Yes. Sentrient is built and supported in Australia. Courses, policy templates and record-keeping are written for Australian workplace law, including the General Retail Industry Award, and support is available in Australian business hours.
Most retailers use two kinds of software. Rostering and workforce management software handles shifts, award interpretation and payroll. HR software handles the people side: recruitment, onboarding, certifications, training, policies, performance and workforce records. Sentrient is the second kind, and it works beside whichever rostering or point-of-sale system a retailer already runs. Store and area managers get the day-to-day view of that through our retail workforce management page.
No. Sentrient does not build rosters, interpret awards, run payroll, or integrate with point-of-sale or inventory systems. Tools such as Employment Hero, Tanda and your POS provider do that. Sentrient is the HR and compliance layer beside them, holding onboarding, certifications, training, policies and records, with timesheet data exportable for payroll.
Yes. Record each person’s working rights, certifications and licences, such as a forklift ticket for stockroom staff or a food handling certificate for grocery retail, against their profile. Reports show who holds a current record by store and role. Sentrient stores the record and dates. Verifying a document with the issuing body remains the business’s responsibility.
Set an expiry date on the record and Sentrient sends reminders to the person and their manager at intervals you choose before renewal falls due. A dashboard lists everything expiring in the next 30, 60 or 90 days, so head office can act early across every store. The business remains responsible for making sure staff hold valid certifications where required.
The General Retail Industry Award 2020 covers most employers and employees in the general retail sale or hire of goods and services, according to the Fair Work Ombudsman, with some sectors such as pharmacies, hair and beauty, and hospitality covered by other awards instead. Sentrient helps you record classifications and keep the workforce data your payroll or award interpretation tool needs. Confirming your award coverage remains your responsibility.
The employee choice pathway is a Fair Work entitlement under the National Employment Standards that lets eligible casual employees notify their employer in writing that they want to move to permanent employment. Sentrient lets you store the notice, the response deadline and the outcome against the employee’s record, so nothing is missed across a large casual workforce. Responding within the required timeframe remains the business’s responsibility.
Sentrient includes pre-built online courses that fit retail settings, including Work Health and Safety, Privacy, Workplace Bullying, Sexual Harassment, Equal Employment Opportunity, Cyber Security, and Food Safety for grocery and food retail. You can also upload your own induction or product training and record completions from other providers in the same place.
Yes. Assign a course once and set it to recur every 12, 24 or 36 months. Sentrient re-enrols the person, sends reminders and records each completion, so an annual WHS or Respect at Work refresher runs without someone keeping a spreadsheet across every store. Head office can build store-specific courses and report completion by store through our LMS for retail.
Staff profiles, contracts and letters of offer, working rights and certification details, signed policies and codes of conduct, training completions, position descriptions, review notes, timesheets and leave, and incident reports. Records are date-stamped and exportable. Fair Work record-keeping requirements still apply to the business as employer.
Run a report that shows, for any store or role, who holds current certifications, who has completed which course and who has signed which policy, with dates. When a Fair Work inspector, franchisor or head office review asks for evidence, you export it rather than assembling it store by store. The business remains responsible for the audit outcome.
Yes. Anyone with a login can report an incident, near miss or hazard, including customer aggression, from a phone or computer on the shop floor. The report goes to the right person, actions are tracked to closure, and the register is available for review. Managing the risk of workplace violence remains the business’s WHS responsibility.
A new starter can complete onboarding before their first shift. They receive a link, enter their details and working rights, sign store policies and the code of conduct, and start any assigned courses. The store manager sees a checklist of what is done and what is outstanding, so most paperwork is finished before day one.
Yes. Casual, junior, part-time and permanent staff all have profiles in the same directory, with the certifications, training and policies each group needs. Timesheets and leave reflect each person’s employment type. Junior worker and workplace laws that apply to under-18 employees remain the business’s responsibility to apply correctly.
Yes. Set up each store or region as its own location with its own managers, and give head office visibility across all of them. Reports roll up by store, so a retail HR team can see certification status and training completion across a growing network from one dashboard.
Retail Trade turnover in Australia runs well above the national average, and people stay where onboarding is organised, expectations are clear and someone notices their contribution. Sentrient gives new starters a clean welcome, keeps position descriptions and goals visible, schedules reviews, and lets teams celebrate milestones on the community wall. It supports the conditions that help retention. Turnover itself depends on pay, hours, culture and leadership.
Yes. Schedule check-ins, record notes, set goals, run reviews and keep a development plan on each profile. Templates keep conversations consistent across stores, and the record supports fair, documented decisions when managers or staff move between locations.
Yes. Sentrient works in any modern browser on a phone or tablet. Staff can complete onboarding, finish a course, sign a policy or report an incident from the shop floor or the stockroom. Managers can approve timesheets and check expiry dashboards on the go.
A rostering or payroll platform is built around shifts, award rates and pay runs, and most hold little about certifications, policies or development beyond a basic profile. Sentrient is built around the workforce record: onboarding, training with refreshers, signed policies, reviews and incident reporting. Retailers that need both keep their rostering or payroll system and add Sentrient for HR and compliance.
Sentrient is used by businesses of every size and sector across Australia and New Zealand, including consumer goods manufacturer and distributor Pental Limited. No dedicated retail case study is published yet. If you have a retail client in mind, we can request their permission for a quote before this page goes live.
Implementation starts with a setup call, then Sentrient loads your stores, roles, people and policies, switches on the courses you need and trains your managers. Most retail businesses are live within weeks. Support is included, and the Sentrient team stays available after go-live.
Pricing depends on how many staff you manage, how many stores you run and which modules you need. Tell us about your business and we will prepare a tailored proposal. There are no figures on this page because every retail business is different.
Yes. Book a free 20-minute demo and we will walk through onboarding, certification tracking, training and policy sign-off using examples from retail businesses like yours. Use the form at the top of this page or the Request Demo button and we will be in touch.
