Checklists for Employee Onboarding
Checklists for employee onboarding usually start as a single document, and then grow until nobody reads to the bottom.
Splitting them works better. A core list that applies to everyone, covering the required information statements, records, policies and general induction. Then role or risk overlays that only apply to the people they are relevant to.
Those overlays are where the real obligations sit. Someone operating plant, driving for work, working with children, handling personal information or working at a client site each picks up requirements that simply do not apply to an office-based starter.
A single list containing every possible item teaches people to skim, and skimming is exactly how a licence check or a working with children check ends up ticked without ever being done.
Safe Work Australia covers induction duties. This is general information rather than legal advice, and obligations vary by state and territory.
