Suppliers, contractors, labour hire staff, bookkeepers, IT providers and cleaners may all hold credentials, access systems, or handle information you are responsible for. A compromised supplier account is one of the more common routes into an organisation, because email from a genuine supplier address passes every check.
Two things follow. Your own training should cover verifying a change in supplier bank details independently, using a number you already hold rather than one in the email. And your contracts should say what security awareness training the supplier runs.
Most organisations do the first badly and the second not at all.
