Australian Recruitment Software
Australian recruitment software is often marketed as software sold to Australian businesses. The differences that matter are narrower than that, and two of them are legal rather than functional.
Where candidate data lives. A CV, a reference check and interview notes are personal information under the Privacy Act. Australian Privacy Principle 8 covers cross-border disclosure and outlines the steps an entity must take to protect personal information before it is disclosed overseas. If a platform stores or processes candidate data offshore, that is a compliance question to answer before you sign, not a technical detail.
What the screening tools assume. Protected attributes differ between jurisdictions, and filters or scoring built for another market can screen on grounds that are unlawful here. Australian right to work checking is also specific, and generic identity verification does not cover it.
Beyond that, offers and contracts have to reflect awards and classifications, and unsuccessful candidate data still needs a retention and deletion rule.
The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner publishes the Australian Privacy Principles. This is general information rather than legal advice, and obligations change over time.
