Conflict Resolution Steps For The Workplace
Most conflict resolution steps for the workplace are written for the manager. If you are one of the two people in the dispute, the useful sequence looks different.
Decide what you actually want. Not to be proved right, which is rarely available. A change to a process, an acknowledgement, or simply to be able to work together.
Raise it early and directly. The conversation gets harder every week you wait, and by the time a third party is involved both positions have hardened.
Separate the behaviour from the person. What happened, what effect it had, what you want instead.
Know when to escalate. If it involves bullying, discrimination or a safety issue, it is not a conflict to resolve between yourselves. Raise it with someone who has a formal process for it, and keep your own notes as you go.
