The most useful employee onboarding tips come from asking people at three months what was hard, rather than from a best practice list. The answers are consistent and rarely match what gets measured.
What new starters report is small and practical. Not knowing who to ask about something minor. Systems access arriving in pieces over two weeks. Being introduced to forty people in one morning and remembering none. Not knowing what they were supposed to have achieved by when. Sitting with nothing to do on day three. Not understanding the acronyms and being too new to ask.
None of that appears in a completion report, and all of it is fixable in an afternoon.
Ask your last five starters those questions before redesigning anything. The answers will be more useful than the design.
