Essential Components of Employee Management
The essential components of employee management span the whole employment relationship, and the gaps cluster at the beginning and the end.
The components are recruitment and selection, onboarding and induction, terms and records, performance and development, wellbeing and safety, leave and absence, conduct and complaints, and offboarding.
The middle of that list is generally covered. Most organisations have something in place for performance, leave and conduct, even if it is informal.
Onboarding and offboarding are where things fall over. Onboarding decides what somebody knows and whether you can evidence it. Offboarding decides whether access was revoked, assets returned, final pay correct and records retained.
Both of them are process rather than judgement, which makes them by some distance the cheapest components in the whole list to fix properly.
The Fair Work Ombudsman covers records and final pay. This is general information rather than legal advice, and obligations vary by state and territory.
