Good Workplace Culture
A good workplace culture is usually assessed by engagement survey score, which is the least reliable measure available. Scores move with the survey design, the timing and how safe people feel answering.
Four indicators tell you more, and all of them come from data you already hold.
- Turnover by team, not organisation-wide. One team losing people while others do not is the clearest single signal you will get.
- Time between an issue arising and someone raising it. If problems arrive fully formed and too late to fix cheaply, people did not feel able to speak earlier.
- Who reports. Reports coming only from head office and none from sites or night shift is a coverage problem, not an absence of problems.
- What happens after someone raises something. Whether their standing changed in the following six months.
