Importance Of Cyber Security Awareness
The importance of cyber security awareness comes down to where attacks actually succeed. Most begin with a person rather than a technical vulnerability.
A convincing email. A phone call from someone claiming to be from IT. A supplier invoice with changed bank details. A message that creates urgency so the usual check gets skipped.
None of those are defeated by a firewall, which is why awareness sits alongside technical controls rather than beneath them.
What makes awareness training effective is narrower than most programmes assume. Teach the two or three attacks your organisation actually receives. Make reporting fast and blameless, since the damage usually comes from the delay while someone works out whether to admit it. And never punish a person who reports falling for something, or the next one will stay quiet.
