Importance Of Cybersecurity

The importance of cybersecurity is normally argued around data. Records exposed, privacy obligations triggered, reputational damage. That is real and it is rarely what hurts first.

What organisations lose first is the ability to operate. Systems taken offline, files encrypted or inaccessible, email down, and no reliable way to contact staff or customers. Rostering, payroll, patient or client records and ordinary approvals all stop at once.

That reframes the question from a technical one to a continuity one. If your systems were unavailable for a week, what would you do about paying people on time, meeting service obligations and proving what happened?

The answers are unglamorous and worth having in advance. Tested backups that are actually restorable, an offline copy of key contacts, a manual fallback for payroll, and a named decision-maker.
