In a dispute, a policy is evidence. It shows what the organisation required, what the person was told, and what standard was being applied. Several Australian obligations turn on what an employer did to prevent something, and a policy is part of that answer.
The condition attached is the part organisations miss. A policy nobody acknowledged proves very little. What carries weight is the version issued, the date, who received it, who acknowledged it, and what happened with those who did not.
Without that trail, the policy is a document you wrote rather than a standard you applied, and that distinction is exactly the one that gets tested.
