Importance Of Psychological Safety In The Workplace
The importance of psychological safety for teams is easiest to see in how a team handles the moment something goes wrong, because that is where teams diverge sharply.
A team with it names the error quickly, examines what allowed it, and moves on. A team without it spends that time establishing who is at fault, which teaches everyone watching to be slower to report next time. The second team is not less capable. It is worse informed about itself.
The same difference shows up in speed. Where people can say they do not understand the brief, rework drops. Where they cannot, the work is done twice and the first version is defended.
Worth noting that safety without standards produces a pleasant team that underperforms. The combination that works is high candour with high expectations, where people can raise problems freely and are still accountable for results.
