Leave management software tends to be bought after something went wrong, and the thing that went wrong is rarely a day to day approval.
A spreadsheet copes with ordinary weeks. It breaks at termination, when accrued annual leave has to be paid out and the number has to be defensible. Years of manual adjustments, a change in hours, a period of unpaid leave and a payroll system that was reconciled inconsistently all land in one figure on one day.
The second failure point is a change in employment status. Moving between full time and part time changes accrual, and a spreadsheet will not recalculate history for you.
