New Employee Onboarding Tips

Day one. Be there when they arrive. Fifteen minutes on what the team does and why it matters. Lunch with someone, not alone at a desk.
Day two. Give them one real task with a clear finish. Small is fine, real matters.
Day three. Ask what has been confusing. Expect nothing the first time and ask anyway.
End of week one. Twenty minutes. What surprised you, what is unclear, what do you need. Write down what they said.
That is under two hours across a week, and it is the difference between someone who feels expected and someone who feels processed.
