Psychological Health And Safety In The Workplace Training
A psychological health and safety training rollout usually fails for a sequencing reason rather than a content one. Organisations train everyone at once, staff start raising psychosocial concerns, and the managers receiving them have had no more preparation than anyone else.
A sequence that holds:
- Officers and senior leaders first. They decide the resourcing, and they need to expect the reporting to rise.
- Managers and supervisors next. Before their teams, so they are ready for what comes back.
- Then all workers. Now the reporting route leads somewhere.
- Then refresh on a cycle, and after any significant change or incident.
Two practical points. Tell managers in advance that reports will increase and that this is the intended outcome, not a failure of their team. And schedule the review, because a rollout with no follow-up looks from the floor exactly like a compliance exercise.
Safe Work Australia sets out the psychosocial hazards duty this supports. This is general information rather than legal advice.
