Psychological Safety Training Australia

Psychological safety training in Australia has a requirement that most overseas material does not meet. Since 2022 the model Work Health and Safety Regulations have required duty holders to manage psychosocial risk, and training that does not mention that is teaching a concept while ignoring the obligation attached to it.

What Australian content needs to include: the psychosocial hazards recognised here, the risk management steps, that the duty sits with the person conducting a business or undertaking, that consultation with workers is part of it, and that adoption and codes vary by state and territory.

It also needs Australian examples. The scenarios in imported material tend to assume at-will employment and a different complaints landscape, and the moment a participant notices that, the credibility of the rest goes with it.

Safe Work Australia publishes the model Code of Practice on managing psychosocial hazards at work, and several jurisdictions have their own code. This is general information rather than legal advice.
