A remote employee onboarding checklist usually covers logins and video calls and skips the part that carries an actual duty.
Work health and safety obligations extend to workers who carry out work from home. That does not mean inspecting someone’s house. It means taking reasonably practicable steps, which for most desk-based work is a workspace self-assessment, guidance on setting up a desk and chair, and a route to raise a problem.
Two other items get missed. Emergency and welfare arrangements, meaning who to contact and how the organisation would know if something happened. And whether their home arrangement is suitable at all, since not every home has a workable space.
Record the assessment. An unrecorded conversation is not much of an answer later.
