Respect In The Work Place
Respect in the work place is difficult to sustain between groups who never actually meet. Day shift and night shift. Head office and site. Clinical and administrative. Field and depot.
The pattern is predictable. Each group attributes the problems they inherit to the other one being careless, and nobody is present to correct the story. Over time it hardens into a settled view that neither group has ever tested.
The fix is contact rather than culture work. Overlap a handover so people meet. Rotate someone for a shift. Put a name and a face on the person at the other end. Share the constraint the other group is working under, because it is usually the missing information.
Where contact is impossible, the next best thing is a manager on each side who publicly refuses to let the other group be blamed in their hearing.
