Respect In The Workplace Training For Managers
Respect in the workplace training for managers exists mainly for one moment, which is the first time someone tells them something. It is rarely planned and usually happens somewhere informal.
Three failures are common enough to name.
Promising confidentiality. A manager cannot contain a serious matter, and the promise breaks trust the moment it has to be escalated.
Deciding whether it counts. That assessment is not the manager’s to make on the spot, and getting it wrong ends the matter there.
Doing nothing because the person asked them not to. The obligation does not disappear on request, though how you act should reflect what they want.
All three come from a manager improvising under pressure, which is precisely what the training exists to remove. Give them a form of words they can use without having to invent one.
The Australian Human Rights Commission sets out the employer duty. This is general information rather than legal advice.
