Acquisition. Attracting, selecting and hiring people against that plan rather than against a vacancy.
Onboarding and enablement. Getting them productive and compliant.
Development. Building capability deliberately rather than incidentally.
Performance and reward. Assessing contribution and then responding to it in a way people can see.
Succession and retention. Knowing where the organisation is fragile and doing something about it.
The first and the last are the two most organisations name and very few actually practise. Both require looking forward rather than backward, and both lose out to whatever happens to be urgent this quarter.
