What Is Offboarding Process
What is offboarding process in practice? It is the sequence that runs from notice being given to the final record being closed, and the order matters more than the list.
The common failure is doing everything on the last day. Access is revoked at 5pm, along with the handover that was never written, the assets nobody listed and the knowledge that leaves with the person.
A better sequence starts at notice. Confirm the final date and entitlements in writing. Agree what gets handed over and to whom, and have it written down. List the assets held. Then, on the last day, return assets, revoke access and close the record. Afterwards, process final pay correctly and retain the employee records for the period required.
The Fair Work Ombudsman covers notice, final pay and records. This is general information rather than legal advice, and obligations vary by state and territory.
