Workplace health and safety training for employees is generally written as though safety were something done to them. Workers hold duties in their own right.
Under Australian work health and safety law a worker must take reasonable care for their own health and safety, take reasonable care that what they do does not adversely affect others, comply so far as they are reasonably able with reasonable instructions, and cooperate with reasonable policies and procedures.
Stating that plainly changes the tone of a session. Safety stops being a set of rules imposed on people and becomes a shared obligation, which is a more honest description of the law and a more useful one.
It also gives a basis for addressing someone who repeatedly ignores a control.
