EEO Training Courses
EEO training courses written before the positive duty arrived frame the subject the wrong way round, and a great deal of content still in circulation does.
The old framing. Here is what discrimination and harassment are, here is the policy, here is how to complain. Accurate and entirely reactive.
What is now expected. Employers must take reasonable and proportionate measures to prevent sexual harassment, sex-based harassment and related conduct, whether or not anyone has complained. Prevention is assessed on what you did beforehand.
That changes the content. A current course covers where risk concentrates in your operation, what a bystander can realistically do, how a manager handles a disclosure, and what protection exists for someone who reports.
A quick test on any course you are offered. If the word prevention appears only in the marketing and not in the module, it predates the duty.
The Australian Human Rights Commission publishes the standards it is measured against. This is general information rather than legal advice, and obligations vary by state and territory.
