How To Implement Workforce Management
How to implement workforce management fails most often because the sequence gets reversed.
Organisations start with rostering, because that is the visible pain. Rosters get built, staff start using it, and then somebody discovers the award rules were configured from memory.
A safer order settles the rules first. Which award or agreement covers each group. Classification levels for every role. Penalty rates, overtime, allowances, minimum engagement and break requirements. Then have somebody independent check the configuration against the award text before a single live roster is produced.
After that, roster one site or team, run it in parallel with the old method for a full pay cycle, and reconcile before extending.
Parallel running feels wasteful and it is where configuration errors surface cheaply.
The Fair Work Ombudsman publishes awards and pay rules. This is general information rather than legal advice, and obligations vary by state and territory.
