Working Alone Training
Working alone training covers hazard awareness and personal safety, and one control does more than all the rest. A check-in system that is genuinely monitored.
Most organisations have something. A text at the start of a shift, a call when leaving a client, a whiteboard in the office. What is usually missing is the second half, which is what happens when a check-in does not arrive.
That is the part the training has to make concrete. Who notices a missed check-in, and within what period. What they do first, second and third. At what point emergency services are called rather than another attempt made. And who does this at 9pm on a Sunday, when the person who normally watches the board is not working.
A check-in nobody is rostered to monitor is a record of when someone was last known to be safe.
Safe Work Australia covers remote and isolated work. This is general information rather than legal advice, and obligations vary by state and territory.
